Vallo Toomla (1983) is a young promising talent in Estonian cinema. He has studied theology in Tartu University and film directing at Baltic Film and Media School. He has been in versatile roles in front and behind the camera but is best known as a director. Vallo has directed five short films and a puppet animated film in one of the most recognized puppet animation companies in Europe – Nukufilm. His student films have all been aired by Estonian Public Broadcasting and his short film “Devil’s Vaudeville” was in domestic cinema distribution. Already his first student work “Morbius “ was selected to International Student Festival “Sleepwalkers” at BNFF and won the Best Estonian Short Film award.
His debut feature “Pretenders” was premiered in 64th San Sebastian IFF in September 2016.
Liina Trishkina studied comparative theory of culture in Estonian Institute of Humanities, and filmmaking in European Film College (Denmark) and Film School of Catalonia at Barcelona University. Currently working as a freelance director and editor of documentaries, features and TV-programmes.
Documentary film director and cameraperson Kersti Uibo was born on 22 September 1956 in Kilingi-Nõmme. In 1980 she graduated from the Maurice Thorez Institute of Foreign Languages in Moscow with a degree in English and German philology, in 1991 from University of London with a bachelor’s degree in history, and in 1995 from the National Film and Television School (NFTS) with a master’s degree in documentary directing. During Uibo’s studies at NFTS, the documentary directing course was run by the Italian-American Herb DiGioia, who is associated with the Direct Cinéma school of the sixties in the USA. One of the guest lecturers at NFTS was the legendary Richard Leacock. From 1985-2015 Kersti Uibo lived and worked in London, since 2015 she has been living permanently in Tallinn. Since 1995 she has been a freelance documentary film director and film teacher.
