René Vilbre (1970) is an Estonian film and TV director. He graduated from Tallinn Pedagogical University in 1997, specializing in audio-visual disciplines, film director. From 1995 he worked for Estonian Television as a film program director and from 2001 as the general director. He was the author and director of the weekly culture program “OP!” (1999-2001) and “Kreisiraadio” (“Crazy Radio”) to name a few. In addition, he has written and directed many short films, animations, as well as music videos and commercials.
His previous feature films before the Class Reunion trilogy, include I was here (2008) which premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and Martin the Cat (2005), which was awarded the prize for the best children’s film at Lübeck International Film Festival. The hit comedies Class Reunion (2016) and Class Reunion 2 (2018), also directed by Rene Vilbre, are both among the highest grossing films in the history of Estonian cinema.
Born in 1957 in Pärnu.
Graduated from The Tallinn Art University as a designer of stage and theatre.
Since 1984 he has directed and designed multitude of animated and puppet films and has made stage solutions for more that 50 Estonian theatre performances.
