Dorian Supin

Biography

  • Dorian Supin was born on 25 September in 1948 in Leningrad (now St Petersburg). Two years later, in 1950, the family moved to Estonia where Dorian Supin graduated from the secondary school. At that time he took part in a drama club and was interested in photography. After the secondary school he returned to Leningrad in order to study plant protection at the Leningrad Agricultural Institute.

    Between 1971 and 1975 he had various jobs in Tallinn, thus acquiring experience of different fields of work and getting to know fascinating and worldly-wise people.

    In 1975 he started work at the Estonian Television – first as an assistant cameraman and later as cameraman and director at "Eesti Telefilm" (Estonian Telefilm), additionally writing some scripts as well.

    Since 1997 Dorian Supin is a freelance cameraman and film director.

    Together with six Estonian filmmakers, he founded the film and television production company F-Seitse in 1998, where he works to this day. Besides filmmaking he delivered lectures to the media students at Concordia International University of Estonia in 2001-2003.

    Dorian Supin has participated – as cameraman, director or scriptwriter – in the making of over 50 documentary films and 5 features.
