Meleleiv and Liisa are two young Estonians with pure souls who meet each other during the battles with feudal order. Herman Pesentack and Hans Metten, the vassals driven by greed and power hunger, use both violence and tricks in order to get what they want. Those who are mentally stronger will come out as winners. The freedom of Estonians can exist only within the borders set by the feudal order. The man who has given the vassal's oath of homage to his lord must be also ready to rise against his nation.
