Young sailor Zakhar Psaltoryov knows what he wants. Throughout the events of the film, his mental self-image will go through lots of changes. While getting involved in various situations and relationships, the sailor has to make all kinds of conscientious decisions. A simple Soviet sailor becomes a captain of the first rank. The others around him will be less successful.
