In 1981 Mark Soosaar went to Toronto in order to document sailor and amateur painter Jaan Oad (1899-1984) who was born in Kihnu island, Estonia. Oad started painting only after having fled from Estonia. He paints memories about Kihnu island. Oad says that the history of Kihnu has to be documented. Daily life of Kihnu island becomes alive in his paintings: including fishing and sealery, shipbuilding and carrying stones, blacksmithing and smuggling spirit. Filmmakers talk to Oad in his home in Canada whereas the winter scenes of Kihnu island
