Aleksander (2019)

A documentary about Aleksander Eelmaa’s state of mind as a 72 year old actor who hasn’t been able to unite love and life. Chapter 1 “Fathers and Sons” investigates communication problems between Aleksander Eelmaa, his son Taavi and his own father. The first chapter is dedicated to problems between two generations, fathers and sons. Aleksander is interviewed in his family’s summer house where him and his parents and also his son Taavi used to live. There is archive footage of Taavi’s childhood, an unreachable beautiful memory for Aleksander. As an actor it is sometimes easier for Aleksander to express himself through quoting text rather than talking about his thoughts and feelings directly. In the documentary he is doing both. The chapter is Aleksander’s self critical poetic contemplation about him as a father and as a son.
