World’s Fire (2020)

Original title in Finnish: Maailmanpalo

Students film Duration 09:32

Plot summary

World’s fire is a poetic exploration of the nordic forest through sound, visuals and finnish poetry. Film travels with the main character, the Forest, from dawn till night on one imaginary day.

The film starts with the tranquility and colorful landscapes. The vast forest landscapes breathing in a natural rhythm. As the film progresses, the undertone changes to darker and sadder. A place that has been spacious and breathable begins to appear as a place that has no space in the world, and that disappears due to lack of space.
Throughout the documentary a finnish poet recites poems by Eino Leino. Poem montage is built to be spoken by the protagonist - the Forest. It can be seen as an inside monologue of the Forest, a swan song about impending destruction.
