In the autumn of 1998 the first Estonian expedition to the top of world's sixth highest mountain Cho-Oyu (8201 m) in Himalayan mountains took place. Estonians first surrendered the border of 8000 metres. The victory, however, did not come quickly since nature put the alpinists to the test. They decided to attack Cho-Oyu from Tibetian side as it provided the opportunity to get familiar with the TIbetian way of life.
