Hugo Mitt arrived at Australia from Germany at the end of 1948. FIrst, English language courses took place at the refugee camp in Bonegilla. Then he had to pass the mandatory employment for two years in Woomera where ditches were digged for the future military base colony. After the mandatory job, Hugo mitt went to his parents' place in Adelaide and started studying electronics at the university. There were financially hard times.
