Dependant (2017)

In a library a girl asks the young man named Joonas working there to help her find a book.  The girl asks what inspired Joonas to write it. We see Joonas intercating with his grandfather Kaarel in school and discussing the book. The next day Joonas comes to school and finds that his grandfather has not showed up. Joonas proceeds to look for him in the teacher’s room and then heads to Kaarel’s house. By the house Joonas sees a stranger walking hastily away from the property. Inside the house Joonas finds his grandfather’s diary, which reveals that Kaarel somehow talks to his dead wife. Joonas finds a photograph of another stranger and a note about a house on sale nearby. Joonas calls the number on the note and goes to meet the realtor selling the house. Inside the house he hears the voice of his grandmother Silvia alluding to the fact that the house was acquired by the real-estate company illegally. Later back at Kaarel’s house Joonas falls asleep after reading grandfather’s diary and hearing his grandmother. In his sleep Joonas sees Kaarel approached by the two strangers he has seen before. An assault is insinuated. Next day in the library Joonas sees one of the strangers returning books. He follows the man, but gets spotted. Later Joonas meets Laura, the girl seen in the beginning of the film, who gives him advice.  Joonas finds information about the real-estate firm the strangers are working in and confronts its boss Ragnar. It is revealed that Kaarel is dead and that Ragnar used to be in a relationship with Silvia. After Joonas has a nervous breakdown Jane promises to help him bring Ragnar to justice. In the end of the film it is revealed that Ragnar has been imprisoned.  Laura asks Joonas what inspired him to write his book, to which he replies “Excessive curiosity”.
