Sünopsis

It is the year of 1921. After the Civil War, the Soviet Russia suffers starvation and chaos. The only way to get food grain is to sell distrained gold and diamonds guarded by the state repository. European jewelry exchange boycotts all transactions with Russia. Nevertheless, valuables originating from repositories in London and Paris will appear that seem to be mysteriously smuggled in. intelligence officer Maksim Issayev starts investigating the case in Estonia. In Tallinn, Issayev tracks the network of Russian expatriates and the members of White Army who still aim at fighting back the Bolsheviks. Next to the subject of fighting for diamonds and bread, there is another important storyline in the film - struggle for preserving the intellectual values, cultural heritage, and literary people in Russia.
