Students film | Drama Duration 09:20

Plot summary

,,Nowness’’ tells the reminiscent story of a grandfather and understanding grief and death.

Shown through a poetic lens, the film tells the story of a woman’s (Kätlin Hallik) final farewell with her grandfather (Tõnu Maasar). She goes to the well to get some water in order to wash her grandfather’s dead body. On this walk, she is accompanied by the memory of herself as a little girl (Kirke Nora Pärlin). She finds a dead magpie hanging from a tree which had been put there by her grandfather in order to ward off the other magpies. She frees the bird. The woman says goodbye to her childhood as she pours water into the bucket. On her way back, she helps to put the remaining logs into the woodpile and both her and her grandfather accept their destiny. The woman washes her grandfather’s dead body and afterwards starts to split the remaining logs. The whole film is accompanied by a monologue describing the behaviour of magpies.
