When we say "Tartu", we mean "Matteus". Arnold Matteus (1897-1986) studied architecture in Germany and worked as a chief architect during several governments and during the war. He was a gentleman, a diplomat, a creative personality and a master of compromises. He never sold himself. The portrait documentary about Matteus was complete in 1981; however, due to the critical evaluation by the minister of culture of that time the film was publicly banned and was allowed to be screened only on special permission by the authorities.
