Tales of our Village (2015)

Original title (in Estonian): "Meieküla Lood"

Students film | Comedy Duration 28:10

Plot summary

A newlywed couple from the city wants to buy a house in a small Estonian village. While visiting the desired house, the village sauna owner happens to walk by. He is a man of many words, and has his own opinion about everyone and everything. While working in the sauna he has heard a lot of stories about people living in the village and he is really happy to share those stories to new people.
The first story he tells is about the village chief Andrus and his troubles with finding true love. He tries every option he can think of. Puts his picture up on the local newspaper, sends his video to “Maamees Otsib Naist” show, goes to a disco at a nearby town. He even thinks about marrying his own sister, but luckily in the end true love knocks on his door herself.
When the sauna owner finishes his story he finds a new lead to continue telling stories about people he knows, but the next story will be shown in the next episode.
The series is about a man telling stories to a newlywed couple who came to a small Estonian village to buy a house. The stories are about people who live in the village. Every episode is a different story about a different person, but all the people and stories are connected to each other and have crossovers. The man is a local sauna owner and bases his opinion of people on the fact if they go to sauna on Sunday or not, so all the stories have references to the sauna and are even kind of advertisements.
The stories are shown on three different visual levels.  First the storyteller and listeners are seen on the screen. Second the visual is in the story and storyteller is heard as a voiceover. Third the story is seen on screen and no voiceover is heard.
Series target group is from teenagers to middle-aged viewers.
