The recurring theme in the documentary lies in brief meetings with writer Arvo Valton and his companions at various moments in his life. The filmmakers have recorded the writer's birthday party in the Writers' House, Tallinn; his home in Märjamaa; and his conversations with Sirje Kiin. Valton explains his world views and tells about his life as a writer. Valton's wife Tiina Vallikivi has always been supportive and understanding, a true fairy of the big family. Writing is Arvo Valton's passion and freedom.
