In front of the main gates of the Pskov-Caves Monastery there is a modest wooden St. Barbara Church where Father Jevgeni has served as a priest already for several decades. He baptizes, weds, blesses, remembers, hears confessions, calculates the congregation's money and manages the church. Jevgeni holds around two hundred funeral ceremonies a year. Death is one of the main characters in the documentary; however, another main subject of the film is life - the one lived by Jevgeni and the people who are connected to him and the church. There is nun Olga who has kept a hairdresser's profession ...
