In our film, Arvo Pärt, together with Immo Mihkelson, deciphers his notes in those workbooks – a fascinating and interesting activity. There are things that are incomprehensible, but there are also things that are edifying. Every record may evoke thoughts, recollections, discoveries. We can see a person who is looking for his way. And we can understand that the way is a narrow one. The film contains a lot of so-called home videos. Arvo Pärt is a kind and hard-working, good-humoured and caring person, composer, husband, father, grandfather. “Even if I lose everything…, “Arvo Pärt has written in one of his workbooks. What is he talking about? Does it mean that for him, “everything“ has no value any more? Does it mean that there exists something quite different, a treasure, that one may give up “everything” for? What kind of treasure is that? That is what our film is telling about.

A student concert of works by Arvo Pärt was held in 2011 in the Tallinn Swedish St Michael´s Church as a collaboration between the Old Town Music School in Tallinn and the Arvo Pärt Centre.

In 2011 the Old Town Music School of Collegium Educationis Revaliae and the International Arvo Pärt Centre together staged a student concert of works by Arvo Pärt in Tallinn`s Swedish St Michael`s Church. The duble DVD package is a recording of the concert and the rehearsals.

A student concert of works by Arvo Pärt was held in 2011 in the Tallinn Swedish St Michael´s Church as a collaboration between the Old Town Music School in Tallinn and the Arvo Pärt Centre. This is a DVD recording of the rehearsals for the concert.

Unique documentary about Arvo Pärt in the role of a pedagogue while making music together with the students of the Old Town Educational College and tutoring them before the upcoming concert of Arvo Pärt's music. Pärt encourages the young musicians to improvise themselves, gives his advice and mild recommendations in order to fine tune the performances and to find better harmonies. Pärt also tells stories and often illustrates his advices with playing the piano. The documentary shows an emotional creative process where dedicated young people try to perform a diverse choice of Arvo Pärt's music – beginning from the simple children's songs, famous tintinnabuli pieces and ending with the less known examples from vocal and instrumental music by Arvo Pärt.

The work is dedicated to the Santa Cecilia choir and orchestra of the National Academy and to their conductor Myung-Whun Chung. Arvo Pärt´s work, "... which was the son of..." was pecially commissioned for the contcert tour of European capitals of culture in 2000. Film recorded the rehearsals of Voices of Europe, youth choir of the European capitals of culture before the premiere in Reykjavik on 26 August 2000. The composer also took part in the rehearsals. The youth choir Voices of Europe included 90 singers from eight countries, aged 16-23. The chief conductor was Thorgerdur Ingolfsdottir.

It`s the same with music; look here, I take the skin off this potato, the musician then cooks it and puts it on the table, but it was God who let it grow - explains Arvo Pärt himself.
